Oily Skin Management in Brooklyn, NYC

Dealing with oily skin can be frustrating, especially when product after product doesn't help. At Ecobeautica, we want to relieve you of your oily skin, but we aim to do that by finding the root cause of your skin's oiliness, not just by getting rid of the signs of oily skin. We strive to learn what's behind your unique skin concerns. After a consultation with us, we will choose which products and services to use that may best support your oily skin.

What Your Skin May Need

The source of any oil on our faces is a gland located in our hair follicles in our pores. A number of things may trigger these glands to overproduce this oil, known as sebum, leading to oily skin.

Oily skin is characterized by:

  • A greasy, coarse texture
  • Large pores
  • A dull or shiny complexion
  • Blemishes like pimples and blackheads

When it comes to shrinking those pores, clearing out that acne, and getting your skin to dry up, we know that the right products and ingredients are key to supporting your skin. There are many different kinds of ingredients that we may use to improve your skin.

In general, some of the best products for oily skin are non-comedogenic products, that is, products that are specifically designed not to clog pores.

Astringents (which you may also find under the names "toner," "freshener," or "clarifying lotion") are also worth looking into if you have oily skin. Astringents can tighten pores and dry the skin. Tannic acid acts as an astringent and can be found in ingredients like lappa extract, birch extract, horse chestnut extract, and nettle extract. Other astringents include witch hazel or hamamelis extract, potassium alum, lemon extract, and other citrus extracts. Lemon extract in particular can cleanse the skin while also removing oil.

The following ingredients also have astringent properties:

  • Chamomile
  • Cornflower extract
  • Rosemary extract
  • Sage extract
  • Saponaria

Isopropyl alcohol and SD alcohol, or ethanol, may also be good choices for oily skin. While some people may cast aside alcohols as products that are too drying for the skin, these alcohols may bring oily skin back to a normal state. Their ability to dry the skin may have an astringent effect on the skin as well.

Those who have oily skin and acne could use a milk cleanser to remove makeup and follow with a rinseable detergent cleanser to make sure no makeup or oil is left behind. A night treatment that incorporates peeling and hydrating agents could also be used to clear up oily skin with acne.

We Support Your Skin

Ecobeautica first and foremost wants to get the root cause of each client's skin conditions to determine the best course of action available to each individual. After determining the reason behind your oily skin, we will decide which services may work best for your skin.

For oily skin, there are two services we often consider: our custom Ecobeautica Facial and Color Light Therapy.

Our signature Ecobeautica Facial is designed around each client's unique needs. This means that we will support your oily skin with the specific ingredients and procedures meant to complement your needs.

We may choose to use Color Light Therapy on its own or in conjunction with an Ecobeautica Facial. Color light therapy uses different colors to create electrical impulses in the body that elicit specific hormonal and biochemical responses. Certain colors may balance your skin or even relieve the stress that may be behind your oily skin.
